Mermaid and the Rainbow: Mermaid Science, by Lois Wickstrom, is an imaginative and educational picture book for young children. One cloudy day, Trezzie hears her friends Maia and Fig giggling from above the water. Trezzie intends to show her friends how to make a rainbow using a glass she found, but the weather has other plans. Trezzie reaches the surface of the water and hands the glass to Maia. Seeing that the glass is empty, Maia decided to show Trezzie and Fig a cool trick. Trezzie and Fig are amazed by what they see. Maia has more tricks up her sleeve and Trezzie finally gets to show off hers. What other tricks can Maia do?
Mermaid and the Rainbow is a story children are going to love and learn from. From the moment you open the book, you are met with bright and colorful illustrations by Ada Konewki that capture your attention and have you feeling excited about reading. I enjoyed how education has been incorporated into the book, as well as keeping the reader entertained. The lessons the author teaches are simple enough so that any child can perform them, whilst having fun at the same time. The writing flows smoothly and is of a high standard. Lois Wickstrom is a great children's author and I recommend her book to any child. Continue to create these wonderful books, Lois, you never fail to impress me with your abilities. I hope to read more soon!
