School is out and it is time for Rafe Khatchadorian to attend the dreaded summer camp —- this isn’t just any summer camp; it is Camp Wannamorra, summer school camp. He ends up in the loser cabin, aka The Muskrats, along with some interesting and friendly cabin mates like Booger Eater and Legend. The cool cabin is called the Bobcats and their leader is Doolin. The Bobcats, and especially Doolin, are some of the worst bullies you’ll ever meet and they love nothing more than making everyone miserable, especially the Muskrats. Rafe unites his bunkmates against the Bobcats.
This is the fourth book in James Patterson’s Middle School Series. My copy is an audio CD. As with the other Middle School books, there is a running theme of Rafe against bullies. We also come to know more about the secondary characters: Booger Eater’s name is Norman and he reads a lot to escape his unhappy home life. For him, camp is the lesser of two evils. Norman is a good influence on Rafe; he shares books with him proving to Rafe that reading is fun.
I have enjoyed all four of the Middle School books. Chris Tebbetts and James Patterson have a hot hit on their hands and I hope they continue to crank out the books. I was listening to this one in my car, along with two of my grandchildren. One of them did not want to get out of the car because this book was so interesting and he hadn’t heard all of it. I graciously gave him my copy so that he could listen to the rest of it. Now that is proof this is one entertaining book. The narrator is Bryan Kennedy; his voice is perfect for this series.
