Miles of Adventure: Caribbean Sun & Fun in Barbados by Jamie Bright is a charming and delightful tale for children aged four and up that captures the joy and wonder of childhood exploration. The story follows young Miles as he embarks on a series of mini adventures with his family on the beautiful island of Barbados. From playing beach soccer to taking his first “sea bath” in the warm ocean waters, Miles experiences the island's culture and nature with an endearing curiosity that children will enjoy as they go on the adventure with him.

Jamie Bright’s narrative style is inviting, making it easy to immerse in Miles's experiences as he interacts with locals, tries sugarcane for the first time, and learns about the island’s wildlife, like the friendly green monkeys and the majestic sea turtles. Each chapter brings a new adventure, complete with subtle lessons on cultural appreciation, environmental awareness, and the value of friendship. The book is perfect for young readers who love travel stories or parents seeking to introduce their children to new cultures. The accompanying illustrations by Naafi Nur Rohma add warmth and vibrancy to the narrative, complementing the story’s lighthearted tone. Bright also includes questions throughout the book that encourage young readers to reflect on their own experiences and think about the world around them. In Miles of Adventure, a children's book by Jamie Bright, Miles and his family live in Barbados, and it's his first family day at the beach. He's excited about the new experience. Miles plays soccer, makes new friends, takes a sea bath, delights in eating sugarcane, discovers the process of turning sugarcane into treats, and learns about the symbiotic relationship between turtles and the Barbados people. Driving from the West to the East Coast, Miles is in awe at the differences and watches green monkeys munch on mangoes. After the fun day, Miles is ready to explore more of his island home. The author provides a parent's guide for extended learning at the end of the story, with fun activities to promote education.

With short chapters that are great for beginning readers, Jamie Bright informs young readers about the wildlife, customs, and environment in Barbados. Miles learns the language and Bajan culture, but, most of all, he bonds with the people around him and connects with nature. The questions relating to the material at the end of each chapter keep children engaged in the story and offer caregivers the opportunity for discussion if they are reading along with them. My children and I were interested in learning about sea baths. We've always enjoyed soaking in ocean water but were unaware it was a practice. The vivid illustrations by Naafi Nur Rohma and the colorful map will draw children's eyes to every page. Readers who enjoy learning about new cultures and locations will love Miles of Adventure.

When you go on vacation, do you only visit the tourist spots or take the time to see how the locals live? Miles and his family are visiting Barbados in Miles of Adventure by Jamie Bright. While the family is spending Sunday at the beach, they meet people from different cultures, and Miles has a chance to play soccer with other children. He learns that in Barbados, families gather to attend church and then go to the beach. The locals recommend a sea bath, and Miles tries it with his family. He enjoys seeing the various marine life and gets a special treat: sugarcane. People from different cultures or areas often speak with different accents, and Miles learns all about their differences. When visiting other places, take the time to become a part of the community, even if the visit is brief. Your child will learn that having fun on vacation should include learning and growth.

Miles of Adventures by Jamie Bright shares Miles and his family’s fun and exciting story as they spend time in Barbados. Written on a child’s level, Jamie shares information about the wonderful island and its amazing people. Jamie covers many facets of Barbados, from marine creatures to green monkeys eating mangoes. Naafi Nur Rohma does an excellent job of illustrating this story. Jamie includes questions at the end of each chapter to help your child understand and remember what they have read. Teaching your child about different cultures and how to accept and respect people from other places is important. When one takes the time to interact with people of other cultures, one will learn we are more alike than different. Spend time with your child researching and learning about the culture wherever you might be visiting.
