Broken-hearted after the tragic death of her true love, Angela, a single African-American woman, was determined to build a new life. She accepted a position as a head writer in a new division of a publishing company. She moved back to her hometown from Houston, Texas, and connected with her friend Lisa. Lisa’s goal was to get Angela back in the dating game. She introduced her to Richard, a handsome, wealthy man, who also had the reputation of being a ladies' man. Angela had always received this advice from her mother: “Never let a man know how you really feel.” Angela’s desire was to find a special man who would be with her for the rest of her life. In the novella, Momma Knew, written by Cynthia Hoosier, several approaches to finding one’s soulmate are illustrated. Will Angela follow her friend’s opinion, her mother’s advice, or use her own judgment?
This novella is an easy-to-read, engaging fictional work. While Angela is the main character, there are three other major characters (as well as Momma’s influence) interwoven into the story. Each character has distinct qualities, adding intriguing aspects to the story. Angela’s quest to find happiness again after losing her true love can provide hope to any reader who has lived through difficult endings of relationships. There are moments of sadness and grief, but these are balanced by humor and compassion. This story also contains steamy, sexual dialogue and scenes. Author Cynthia Hoosier has penned a realistic, touching novella in Momma Knew. It is a poignant and fun quick read.
