The regime of Firebursts did not seem to have limits on the pain, suffering, and terror it inflicted on its subjects. Josh, Jules, and Sophia were among the many whose homes had been destroyed. As if that was not enough, they were now in captivity and could not tell how long they had been in prison. All they knew was the unbearable pain they had to endure daily as the Firebursts tortured them for information they did not have. There seemed to be no hope for them until a prophecy about their freedom was revealed. The three wasted no time breaking out of their cells. With danger lurking all over, they stumble into something that may give them protection and a chance to fight back. Discover more in DJanée’s More than Conquerors: On the Run (Book 1).

Introducing me to a fascinating, dynamic cast, the author whisked me away from reality and dropped me into a world of imagination. The vivid depictions breathed life into the scenes. It felt like I was next to the cast in every scene, closely following as they made their moves. I was swept away by the wave of assassins, insurgents, rebellion, oppression, espionage, power, loyalty, sacrifices, and more. The conversations, entwined with urgency and tension, are purposeful and character-driven. The author uses introspection and depictions to bring out the characters’ emotions. Juxtaposing their complex traits allowed me to connect with them. Lovers of young adult dystopian science fiction blended with fantasy, adventure, suspense, and action will find DJanée’s More than Conquerors an enthralling read.

DJanée's More Than Conquerors: On the Run tells the gripping tale of three teen friends gifted with unique supernatural abilities as they battle to adapt and survive in a hostile world. We are introduced to the teens—Sophie, Josh, and Jules—who are detained by Fireburst warriors in a Fireburst Compound. The teens are interrogated for information they don't have. Their respective homes have been burned to the ground by their enemies, and their loved ones are dead. All they have now is each other. They also have hope that, according to the Prophecy of their people, they will one day be free from torment at the hands of the Firebursts and their allies, the Killers. Fortunately, a daring escape leads them to a Resistance group that offers them protection. But their journey is far from over! Can they defeat their enemies and gain their liberty?

More Than Conquerors: On the Run is a thrilling dystopian fantasy that starts with a bang. It becomes increasingly compelling as the story progresses. Fans of this exciting genre combo will find it hard to put down. This tale is a suspenseful, action-packed, and adventure-filled story about resilience, friendship, overcoming obstacles, and never-ending hope. The tension isn't merely felt in every chapter—it's also embedded in the story's foundation. You will feel every aspect of the teens' struggles and hardships, almost as if you were right there yourself—all courtesy of DJanée's evocative and immersive prose. Moreover, the unexpected twists, magnetic dialogues, and fascinating character developments make this tale a must-read from beginning to end. It is perfect for fans of Pierce Brown's Red Rising. I'm already on the lookout for a second installment to complement the first.

More Than Conquerors: On the Run by DJanée opens with action and tension in a dystopian story that will appeal to fans of fantasy and beautiful prose. The story introduces Sophie, Josh, and Jules, who, after losing their loved ones, families, and homes, are now held captive and tortured for information they do not have. A prophecy that hints at freedom offers them hope as they make daring attempts to achieve it. However, although escaping captivity might free them from dangerous elements like the Killers, the worst is yet to come. Their journey is fraught with peril, uncertainty, and the shadow of the enemy. As they confront increasing dangers, they uncover truths that could help them in fighting back, but will they be able to prevail against the Killers and the overwhelming odds against them?

The prose instantly captured my interest as it leapt clean and crisp off the pages. More Than Conquerors: On the Run uses a tantalizing first-person narrative voice, accompanied by terrific descriptions that excite the imagination and compel readers to stay engaged with the characters. The bond between Josh, Sophie, and Jules is ingeniously written, and I rooted for these characters, watching their every step and feeling their every emotion of fear, anxiety, courage, and uncertainty. The plot is unpredictable, and the suspense makes it a compelling read. DJanée has crafted a dystopian story that brilliantly follows the characters' struggles and survival in a ruthless environment. It was an exciting read for me.
