Morgan’s Landing by Linda Griffin is a tightly plotted, atmospheric mystery set in a seemingly quiet Maryland town. We find ourselves in a small town, shattered by the disappearance of 14-year-old Julie Morgan. When she vanishes on her way to school, suspicion spreads like wildfire, and for Detective Jim Brady, the investigation hits dangerously close to home. As he sifts through suspects ranging from school staff to known offenders to his own son, Brady must balance his duty as a cop with his fears as a father. With tension mounting and time running out, Morgan’s Landing explores both the procedural steps of a missing person case and the emotional minefield of domestic uncertainty. Anchored by a haunting narration from Eric Priessman, this audiobook version delivers a gripping, character-driven mystery you’ll want to finish in one sitting.

Author Linda Griffin has a natural way of conveying the plot through a cast of interesting people, and this makes for a compact, character-rich mystery that punches well above its weight. For such a quick read, there’s so much going on, and I loved Jim as a central catalyst for all this action. The suspicion stretches far into the plot, and that’s further enhanced by Griffin’s commitment to atmosphere and bending quiet, unassuming settings to take strange forms where you need to have a second glance into every corner, just in case a monster or a clue awaits. This makes for a truly chilling, intimate portrait of a town in crisis and a family in freefall. I can’t wait to see what story comes next from Griffin’s criminally good mind!

In terms of audiobook production, Eric Priessman's smooth and confident narration brings emotional nuance and urgency to Linda Griffin’s taut storytelling. Priessman’s keen sense of when to let the other shoe drop allows for some quality revelations. I found myself hooked and wanting to listen to chapter after chapter as the story flowed naturally under his control. The work was also very cleanly edited and crystal clear in its sound quality. Overall, I would certainly recommend Morgan’s Landing as a perfect experience for listeners who enjoy emotionally driven mysteries.
