Neither Officers Nor Gentlemen: A Fiction of Piracy + Plunder is a work of fiction in the historical, adventure, and action sub-genres, and was penned by author Jake Lanum. The work is intended for mature readers as it does contain some use of explicit language, scenes of a sexual nature, references to violence, and depictions of slavery. A maritime adventure set in the golden age of privateers, Wilhelm “Will” Geier joins Captain Drake’s crew on a voyage of discovery, only to find there’s so much more to surviving at sea and in wild lands than he could ever have imagined. So begins a fantastic and fascinating tale of piracy and the search for gold and glory.
Author Jake Lanum has crafted an excellent and highly engrossing work that is sure to please fans of action and adventure fiction everywhere. The historical setting is solidly woven into the novel and ever-present in the detailed descriptions, exciting atmosphere, and the dialogue and narrative presentation of every character. As such, this makes the reader feel like they’re right at Will’s shoulder, discovering the world of the privateers with him, so fans seeking a truly immersive experience will not be disappointed. One of the other aspects which I found very impressive was the dynamism and almost cinematic feel of the action scenes, which showed gritty realism and the darker side of pirate life. Overall, I would highly recommend Neither Officers Nor Gentlemen to fans of historical pirate stories that suck you in and take you along for the ride.
