Fans of dystopian thrillers are in for a wild ride with Ashen Lye's Neuro Override. Set in a futuristic Neo-Los Angeles, the narrative follows Lira Elara, a thirty-one-year-old former neural ballerina whose life was irrevocably changed after an infamous scandal. It led her to become a host, a neural commodity in the city's exploitative flesh trade. But when one of her clients unexpectedly offers her a chance at vengeance against those who led her to ruin, Lira discovers a new purpose in life. Ash is a man with resources and a past. From their very first encounter, he finds a kindred soul in Lira, and their bond grows stronger with each passing neural session. Ash helps Lira infiltrate the ruthless OmniCorp to bring it down from within. However, they are up against a cold, calculating enemy.
Incorporating futuristic sci-fi elements such as advanced AI, neural mapping, and polymer tech, author Ashen Lye delivers a gripping psychological thriller laced with suspense, romance, and eroticism. The dystopian setting is absolutely fascinating. Lye's worldbuilding is not only immersive but also provides a glimpse into a believable futuristic dystopia with a few unsettling parallels to real-world issues. I thoroughly enjoyed Neuro Override. Whether it's the grim atmosphere of a futuristic LA or the realistic portrayal of ruthless and greedy corporate executives, there's so much to love about this novel. However, the relationship between Lira and Ash was, without doubt, the primary highlight of the book for me. Lye masterfully traverses multiple genres with a captivating narrative, including steamy romance, psychological thriller, and science fiction. If you enjoy thought-provoking dystopian tales, this is the perfect book for you.
