New Beginnings: Greengrove Series by Helen C Kelly is a romance involving two people who had previously been hurt by love. Jane had been engaged to her high school sweetheart, only to have her heart broken by her fiancé Peter. David, a divorcé who was an old university friend of Jane’s cousin James, had thrown himself into his work managing a restaurant in their small village. When David met Jane for the first time, she was trying to reclaim her old identity. It’s a story about heartbreak, recovery, hoping, trusting, and loving again when that seems impossible. The tale depicts love and how a partner should support you while combining their life with yours.
New Beginnings by Helen C Kelly is a refreshingly delightful and realistic story. I enjoyed reading it because of the way that Jane and David met in a typical everyday type of encounter, and the development of their relationship followed a natural progression. There was no unusual meeting between them, making the story believable and relatable, as most real-life love stories occur naturally without an overly exciting meeting. The story was well written and easy to read and follow, which led me to focus more on the love that blossomed between the characters, how they spoke and related to each other, and the way that they showed their love. The characters were well-developed, with Jane being a caring, hardworking, and independent young woman while David was a strong male figure who aimed to protect and serve those in his life. This was a relaxing and inspiring read.
