Noise All Over is another book in the Little Fears Series by Tuula Pere. Liam loves to wake up on Sunday mornings slowly, but his awareness is jolted when a firetruck's sirens resound through his neighborhood. His mother soothes him, and the sounds fade. His Aunt Lily takes Liam and his cousins to see Dinosaur Rock Band. It promises to be one of the biggest summer events, but the loud music and vibrations overload Liam's senses significantly, and he runs to his aunt's car. After his dad brings him home, Liam faces another loud, repetitive noise and escapes to the park. Uncle Harry is there and offers advice for Liam to follow when the noises become too much to tolerate.
Tuula Pere addresses a childhood fear and gives solid advice in this story. Many people are sensitive to sounds, and some have sensory conditions while others simply hear the noises more acutely. Pere's story normalizes Liam's feelings and gives him safe spaces and understanding people who care for him when he is overwhelmed. The situations described could provide good talking points for children who are easily upset by loud noises and want a way to cope with their reactions. The narration moves along quickly, keeping smaller children's attention until the end, and the illustrations by Catty Flores depict Liam's strong feelings with lively colors. Children who are sensitive to sounds or who may know someone seriously bothered by loud noises will benefit from reading Noise All Over.
