In a meaningful, heartfelt, and heartbreaking book about one of the most horrifying acts that can be done to a child, Not My Secret to Keep: A Memoir of Healing from Childhood Sexual Abuse by author Digene Farrar is a book that is both important and haunting all at once. Telling the story of the author's very personal experience of childhood sexual abuse and trauma, rediscovered on another very traumatic day, that of September 11, 2001, this book will both break your heart and bring you hope. Detailing Ms. Farrar's PTSD, her work with therapists, and her eventual healing from the unspeakable acts that she suffered and had buried deep inside her own mind, this book serves as a helpful guide to those who have suffered from similar atrocities as well as those that love them.
Not My Secret to Keep is an absolutely fantastic book in this genre. More than just a book that recounts the author's experiences with childhood sexual abuse, it also provides an excellent resource in recovering from such physical and emotional abuse and injury. Several passages of this wonderful and personal book will stay with me for a long time to come, and will be useful in the future if I ever have a friend or loved one who is going through such a stressful and difficult time. I am so pleased to highly recommend Not My Secret to Keep. I thank author Digene Farrar for sharing her story with the aim of helping others, and hope that she continues forward in her journey and with her very useful work for a long time to come.
