Not My Time is a superhero romance by Jessica Salina. Kane Kelly is secretly a superhero vigilante named Hematite with a knack for saving innocent people from the unruly elements of society. He has a crush on his best friend, Rory Miller, who he had rescued a decade ago from a dangerous stalker. Since that day, Rory has suffered from PTSD-related issues that affect her everyday life. Rory doesn't know that Hematite is Kane, and when news of Hematite's demise makes the rounds in the town of Riverpeak, Colorado, Rory is determined to find the truth. Meanwhile, Hematite's nemesis Stone Breaker realizes that Rory is the only way to get to Hematite. With Kane seeking the reason behind his extraordinary powers and Rory willing to set herself up as bait, will the two survive their stand against Stone Breaker?

Author Jessica Salina delivers a stellar first installment of the Riverpeak Heroes series. If you're a fan of comic book superheroes like Spider-Man or The Flash, Not My Time will be right up your alley. Fast-paced and filled with romance, action, and humor, Salina's adult superhero series is off to a great start that sets the stage for the larger overarching story. There are a couple of unsolved plot threads, which I presume will be tackled in the sequels. I liked the central romance between Kane and Rory and the chemistry between the two main characters. Kane is someone you want to root for, and he and Rory play off each other brilliantly. Not My Time was a breeze, and I will gladly recommend it to superhero fiction readers.
