Of Constellations and Clockwork by Alexandra Wendt introduces readers to a mesmerizing clockpunk world inspired by the Italian Renaissance, where moral complexity and personal redemption take center stage. Clemenza Giudice, a disgraced noble who has reinvented herself as a clockmaker, navigates a society fractured by broken values and corrupted mystical energies. Her journey becomes a profound exploration of identity, honor, and the challenging path to personal restoration. Wendt crafts a narrative that delves deep into the intricate mechanisms of both clockwork and human nature, presenting a protagonist whose quest for redemption is as precisely constructed as the mechanical wonders she creates. The novel offers a rich, immersive read that transcends traditional fantasy storytelling.

Author Alexandra Wendt demonstrates extraordinary creativity in the world-building and character development of this highly engaging novel, and it is sure to immediately capture readers' imaginations. I was particularly impressed by how the clockpunk setting emerges so uniquely and so differently from the general steampunk genre, richly detailed and filled with imaginative historical twists that challenge readers' expectations of what a clockwork-dominant world means for people. The author's exploration of morality and faith adds new and unexpected depth to the narrative, transforming what could be a simple adventure tale into a nuanced personal journey that feels realistic and emotionally deep. Clemenza's complexity as a protagonist also makes her story captivating, her struggles resonating with universal themes of personal growth and societal redemption in ways that modern readers can certainly relate to. The ensemble cast brings vibrant energy to the story, creating a dynamic and emotionally charged read with brilliant dialogue and larger-than-life personalities that leap off the pages. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Of Constellations and Clockwork as a must-read for those seeking an innovative and moving narrative.

Her journey plunges her into the capital's underbelly, a place rife with forbidden aether experiments and criminal activities. Accompanied by an eclectic group—a rival clockmaker, a flamboyant smuggler, a captive sister, an adept thief, and a secretive architect—Clemenza battles her demons as she navigates a world built on treachery.
