Author Biography

John "Ger Fox" Campos writes under the pen name of "The 2-Bru Krew", in honor of his late brother Duane "Mr. Bear" Campos, as we are "Brus" and equal partners in all artistic endeavors. The inspiration of "Old San Antone: Dawn of the Legend" and all of its sequels comes from “The Code”. And what code is that, you ask? “The Code of Honor” of a man, that’s been nearly all but forgotten in this modern era, except to a few who still live by its set of unwritten rules. Rules where a man keeps his word. Where loyalty, trust, and friendship are bonds that cannot be broken. Where a man finishes what he sets out to do, even if it costs him his life. And where courage and valor are not just words written in poetry books; but are the morals and foundations by which a man lives by, and when need be, dies by.

I am a dedicated devotee to history, particularly the Old West. So, my novels are historically-accurate, from the description, setting, timeframe, attire, cuisine, and weaponry, to the colorfully unorthodox language and vernacular that was used during the post-Civil War Reconstruction Era of the Wild West. The end result is a novel that is so authentic that every page transports the reader back to 1867 in Texas, where they can experience life during that challenging time first-hand for themselves, with tales teeming with action and the ideals of Honor, Brotherhood, Justice, and Humanity.

It is 1867. Captain David “Hondo” Stone of the Texas Rangers has been deployed on an assignment to Old San Antone, Texas. He is to apprehend Cy Jenkins, the son of a wealthy cattle baron, J.B. Jenkins, who is suspected of the murder of a young girl. The Rangers' headquarters in Austin specifically sends Hondo because the assignment is as tough as it is perilous, and only he could pull it off. Old San Antone is a notoriously lawless city, even dubbed the Six-Shooter Capital of the World. Not only does J.B. Jenkins own its officials, but he also runs it with an iron fist through his ruthless syndicate. With Hondo’s arrival, a bloody war looms as law and honor collide with money, power, unscrupulousness, and arrogance on a battlefield leveled by gunfire. But that’s not all. Jack “Kid” Carter, a Victorian mercenary, is about to get caught up in the crossfire, and he must pick a side. Find out how it all goes down in Old San Antone by the 2-Bru Krew.

If you are looking for a Western noir novel flavored with crime, drama, romantic intrigue, history, action, thrills, and suspense, Old San Antone by the 2-Bru Krew is a must-read. The raw, gritty prose and vivid imagery transported me back to the Texas frontier during the post-Civil War period. Life was indeed difficult, especially for minority communities and women. Despite the heavy themes addressed in the story, including racial murder, sexual abuse, and class bias, among others, I found the narrative entertaining. I relished the lively, colorful, dynamic conversations and followed the well-crafted cast as they navigated harsh realities in the Wild West, which were often made profoundly dramatic. Topping all this with the cast’s cynicism and ignorance, I had a good laugh flipping through the pages. This page-turner is an incredible debut in The Chronicles of Hondo Stone and Kid Carter series. I loved it. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.
