Mary and Tom Lovell are twins and they are set for an adventure, only they don't realize it yet. They've been taken from boarding school and sent to northern England to live with an aunt and uncle that they have never met before. Like so many other children, they have been relocated for their own safety against German bombers over London. It's the 1940s and the world is at war. Interestingly, in their escape from battles over their home in London, they enter into a centuries-old battle, but no one believes them. Castles and ghosts from long ago, tales and legends passed down from one generation to the next - what is real and what is imagined?
Alan S. Blood is a retired English teacher. History and English literature are his passion, which is evident in this story. The author weaves a compelling tale of fact and fantasy-based-on-fact, a adventure that takes the reader across the rugged landscape of Northumbria in northern England, in search of castles which are and which once were, and the ghosts that continue to haunt them. There's also a bit of mystery to this tale, as the twins try to defend what they saw and come to some understanding of the historical ghost story's relevance in their time. It's a time of war and the ghosts are also at war. Which story will prevail? And, is there a meaning behind the mystery? a tragedy yet to unfold? The author has created an historical fantasy story, much like C.S. Lewis' popular Narnia series. I hope the twins' adventures continue. Well done!
