Rodimals, felimals, avimals, reptimals, mollimals, and so many others. These are oopsimals. Kristie Moeller documents many of these unusual creatures in her book, Oopsimals: The Complete Encyclopedia. It’s an interesting read; all alphabetical. Have you ever heard of an eagloose, “a majestic Avimal that amalgamates the towering stature of a moose with the keen vision and commanding presence of an eagle.” And then there’s the peapent which “blends the sinuous body of a serpent with the ornamental display traits of a peacock.” Imagine a slinky, long snake with the colorful bloom of peacock feathers! Are these creatures real? That’s for you to decide, but it’s certainly a fabulous look at possibilities that may in fact be real.

Kristie Moeller’s book, Oopsimals: The Complete Encyclopedia, is first and foremost an encyclopedia. It’s well laid out, organized alphabetically, and complete with vivid descriptions, phonetic notes on pronunciation, and colorful images. The author includes humorous alliteratives in her descriptions, as well as making the oopsimal names rather tongue-twisting. The various creatures are documented, complete with visual descriptions, distinct behaviors, diet, natural habitat, and, most importantly, temperament (you never know which creatures are safe to be around). Some of these creatures are definitely rather amusing, not to mention entertaining. Imaginative? Definitely! This book is a must-read for readers who are curious and seek entertainment and humor in everything they read and study. It’s a unique way to observe our world and what may or may not be out there. I loved it!
