Drawing on his experience in hotel management, Bono introduces GiveaRoof.org, a plan that redirects unused loyalty points toward temporary accommodation while Welcome Centers assess each person’s circumstances before support is arranged. The model connects donated travel rewards with hotel capacity, then links that funding to a national system built around coordinated services. Bono also explains how public participation could expand the plan beyond individual acts of assistance by bringing institutions into a framework. The book sets out how an existing consumer resource could become a mechanism for providing housing while creating a route toward longer-term stability.

Claudio Bono’s The Homelessness Fix takes its name from practical action continuing amid debate. This is an extremely timely book. Bono’s proposed federal nonprofit IT network speaks to California’s 2024 audit calling for stronger outcome tracking across billions in homelessness spending. His examination of encampment policy has particular relevance after the 2024 Grants Pass ruling, which expanded municipal power over public camping. The writing is highly accessible, in what I would describe as a conversationally academic style that explains policy ideas in everyday language. Readers less versed in the subject can follow easily; those with a stronger foundation still receive detailed material. Bono believes nonprofit budgets should prioritize services reaching unhoused people. His proposed cap on executive compensation supplies a concrete mechanism for doing so, since the remaining budget could be assigned to frontline provision within the communities receiving homelessness funding. I loved this book and am certain that readers drawn to contemporary American social policy will adore this.
