Our Lifelong Dreams by Eleanor Wells begins with Allison, a young woman who awakens in an unfamiliar place with no memory of her past, yet she feels like there’s somewhere important she needs to be. Mysterious voices give clues that guide her on a surreal path to catch a train from Platform A. On her quest for answers about her past, Allison meets up with some familiar faces and strangers alike, but remains confused and thinks they know more than they’re letting on. Surrounded by glimpses of the past and the memories of familiar songs, Allison slowly begins to understand who she is and how she fits into the lives of those around her. In the end, there’s both an ache and clarity, with a message that reflects who we are, what we leave behind, and the faith that carries us forward. It’s an insightful and deeply human story that invites readers to consider what it means to hold onto dreams while growing alongside someone you love.
Eleanor Wells’ Our Lifelong Dreams is a moving book that will stay with me for a long time. I was caught between wanting her to find out and wanting her to remain in the dark, but in the end, I knew she had to learn about her life. I found the writing mirrors Allison’s journey itself. It’s layered with musical references (which I absolutely love), details on aromas like lavender and ocean air (that I could almost smell while reading about them), and an almost dreamlike flow that shifts effortlessly between memory and the present. I liked how it balanced sadness with hope, proving that even in moments of uncertainty, there’s still room for possibility. Her experiences were relatable and reminded me how easily our past experiences and regrets can shape us. It’s an excellent fit for anyone who likes novels that feel both heartfelt and thought-provoking. It is sure to linger with you.
