Peril on the Indian Pacific by C. A. Larmer, the seventh book in the Murder Mystery Book Club series, is a detail-oriented mystery with the strong flavor of a classic detective novel. Alicia Finlay, her sister Lynette, and other members of the Murder Mystery Book Club embark on the Indian Pacific train to celebrate Alicia's hen party. Alicia knows her life will change significantly after her wedding to Detective Inspector Liam Jackson. However, some things never change, and Alicia sees what she thinks is a body falling out of the train. Alicia suspects it could be Clay Dartmoor, the owner of the enormous estate in Western Australia named Dartmoor Downs. The problem is, no one believes Alicia, neither Clay's family nor even her sister! Is it possible that Clay disembarked to return home after an unpleasant family meeting? Yet Alicia refuses to accept this explanation, and soon, the book club starts their new investigation.

C. A. Larmer's Peril on the Indian Pacific is a wonderful opportunity to learn interesting facts about Australia while following the adventures of Alicia, Lynette, Claire, Missy, Perry, and Ronnie. The author provides a convenient glossary of the characters we encounter. I do not doubt that Larmer loves each character very much, as they have endearing, quirky features. Alicia gains our respect thanks to her firm belief that everyone deserves justice. The wise, sarcastic, and smart Ronnie adds a glamorous note to the narrative. Larmer masterfully interweaves humorous dialogue and observations with intense scenes of personal or family drama, creating a mystery to remember. The plot twists catch us by surprise, while the descriptive part inspires us to journey to the Australian wilderness. This book is for readers who enjoy suspense novels and cozy mysteries with well-developed characters.
