Author Eric Gibson takes the reader on a fantasy journey to the Antylia Archipelago. The unlikely team has quite different starting points - one group in the ocean and the other on one of the isles in the Archipelago. The chapters are broken up into sections, providing the reader with clarity as to which set of characters is the focus and in which geographical area the events will take place. The story pulls together in a little village of lizard-like people, where the two groups meet and team up together to continue their journey. Mages and warriors exploring the isle for mage towers, encountering and warring with hobgoblins and goblins, defeating a manticore, and learning to trust each other are some of the threads of Traveler's Luck Book 1: Perilous Shores.

Eric Gibson is a seasoned fantasy writer. I enjoyed how the story came together, and I could easily follow the key characters that eventually made up the team of explorers. From the loss of the ship Indomitable to the group forming in the town of the lizard people, Uljar-Molik, I experienced with the characters their frustrations, confusion, and concerns. Their forays further into the jungle, encountering hobgoblins, wraiths, and other interesting creatures, made for an exciting read. I also read with keen interest and fascination the battle the little group planned and carried out on the manticore. Now I’m keen to find out more since Traveler's Luck Book 1: Perilous Shores has whetted my appetite.
