Picco Puppy's Counting Book: Picco Puppy, Book 4 is an educational picture book for pre-k and kindergarten-aged children written by Michael Wong and illustrated by Arkhan Studio. Picco Puppy has issued an open invitation to all readers to join him in playing Find and Count. Starting with finding the one ducky in Picco and Poppi’s bathtub, kids search for cleverly hidden items while practicing number counting from one to ten. As the number challenges progress, readers practice orally counting from one to the target number as they find the missing items. For those who are stumped by the more difficult searches, the solution is given on the following page for each challenge. Each item is circled in red, which may help young readers learn how to search for the remaining number clues. The author also provides a link to Free Coloring Pages that are relevant to this book.
Picco Puppy's Counting Book provides an inspiring and infectiously fun way for parents to introduce numbers and counting to their pre-k children. Incorporating searches with counting does so brilliantly, and the repetition, which is so vital to retention, becomes automatic and enjoyable. Picco, Poppi and their parents are the perfect companions and guides as the Find and Count games get more complicated with each number. Where are those pesky dinosaurs, turtles, trains and tiny Piccos? Finding them can take some effort as their hiding places are quite clever. Wong also covers primary and secondary colors in this book, which sharpens the young reader’s counting and searching skills. Arkhan Studio’s illustrations are boldly and brightly colored, and they make this entertaining family feel real. Picco Puppy's Counting Book: Picco Puppy, Book 4 is most highly recommended.
