Author Biography

I never thought that the difficult times I found myself stuck in would result in a Bible study. As a young pastor’s wife, I found myself digging deep into the book of Ecclesiastes looking for answers to the questions that overwhelmed my life: How do I prioritize my life? What things should I focus on? What do I do when things don’t work out my way? How do I avoid having regrets later on?

Those questions and the answers I learned paved the way for my first book Without Regrets. Since then, I’ve experienced the amazing truths that God has for us in the Bible and I am passionate about sharing those truths with others in a way that they can apply those truths to their lives. I write Christian Daily Devotionals, including a devotional for the day, as well as Bible studies and I love to share and to pray for people through my Facebook Page and on Twitter. I also enjoy the opportunity to speak and encourage others whether it’s a small study group or a large women’s conference.

I grew up in Valley Center, Kansas and received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. I’ve been married to my husband D Burchfiel for 17 years and we enjoy our 2 children, Rebekah and Andrew. We currently make our home in Wichita, Kansas where D is the Associate Pastor of Ministries at Summit Church

It's pretty impressive that author Kristi Burchfiel could have packed so much into Piecing Together Forgiveness: A Study of Philemon, considering that the book of Philemon is only 25 verses. An otherwise easily overlooked book of the Bible, it is full of lessons about asking forgiveness, giving forgiveness, indirect forgiveness and teaching forgiveness. Burchfiel has a gift for making scripture easy to understand and relate to our personal lives. This Bible study contains six sections, each representing the perspective of a figure in the book of Philemon: Paul, Onesimus, Philemon, Apphia, Archippus, and God. Each session explains which verses to read, provides an introduction, and allows the participant to fill in answers to pertinent questions presented about that session's reading.

One of the many thought-provoking questions presented is who makes the decision regarding whether to obey, why a person would follow the command or appeal to obey, and what role love plays in the appeal or command. At the end of Kristi Burchfiel's Piecing Together Forgiveness: A Study of Philemon is a chapter on "How to Become a Christian," walking the reader through how we are all sinners, that the wages of sin is death, and how God paid the penalty for our sins on our behalf through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ. It's important that all people understand that, despite our being sinners, God has provided a way for us to be saved through Jesus. This is a wonderful Bible study.
