In Powerful Parenting, Punam V Saxena directs readers to add to the book in a way that is best for them, encouraging journaling after each gentle instruction or directed observation for meditation and reflection. The book lists 101 parenting prompts that motivate positive actions. Saxena makes suggestions to incorporate strong values and inspire good thoughts while mentioning accomplishments and mindfulness, reminding caregivers to focus on providing meaningful family moments and taking time for self-care. The author describes activities for the child's school or home life, like attending a parent-teacher meeting or forming a family book club with refreshments.
Punam V Saxena has delivered a journal to remind caregivers they are human. Each suggestion or affirmation gives them a moment to recharge, work through certain issues, or celebrate small successes. The author has spent thirty years in the education system, teaching and volunteering, so her advice is sound. The book may provide insight, giving exhausted or overloaded caregivers hope that carries them into a brighter day with words that let them know they are not alone. As a mom of seven children, there are days when I feel that I fail - like when we have cans of soup for dinner after a tightly scheduled day. It's nice to address my concerns by writing them in Saxena's book, as it helps me understand that it's okay to be fallible as long as I do my best for my children. Powerful Parenting is a great selection for caregivers, especially those who use writing and journaling as a creative outlet.
