Prop and Friends: Prop and Bob the Control Tower by Emeka Enu is a children’s adventure about Prop, a single-propeller air tractor who helps put out forest fires and rescues animals on the island of Ada Ora. Prop and his friends live at Zik International, a military airport where every plane has an important role in keeping the island safe. They work together as a team, always watching out for one another. One day, Bomber, Prop’s boss, tells him he can’t fly because Harry the Hawkeye has spotted a storm approaching. When the storm passes, the planes gather on runway 25 to clear debris so flights can resume safely. But Prop soon discovers a bigger problem—Bob the Control Tower has been damaged by a tree stump stuck in his roof! Without a working control tower, no plane can take off or land safely. Prop and his friends must work quickly to solve the problem before it’s too late.
Emeka Enu’s story is both engaging and educational. The colorful artwork brings the characters to life while teaching readers about the different types of planes and their roles. Children will learn that some planes, like Herc, have four engines, while others, like Bob, have one propeller. There are fuel tankers, B-52 fighter planes, and many more, each introduced in a fun way that keeps young readers entertained while expanding their knowledge. At its heart, Prop and Friends highlights camaraderie, teamwork, and the value of working together during challenges. The book also includes an index of terms at the end, a helpful addition that explains airport and aviation vocabulary. Fans of children’s stories that blend fun with learning—such as The Monkey Who Saved the Zoo by Adisan Books—will find Prop and Friends an exciting and meaningful read.
