Purr Purr Purloin by Max Parrott is the sixth book in the Ruff McPaw Mystery series. Angela has found success with her investigation business and is proud of the hard work she and her border collie Ruff McPaw have put into it. Between her wit and Ruff’s nose, the two of them are unstoppable when it comes to solving mysteries. David believes the local librarian was murdered. Nancy’s death is written off as a suicide and the police chief has no intention of investigating further. As she and Ruff search for clues, they discover a unique witness, deception, and a motive. Before her death, Nancy made plans for a vacation and was counting down the days but, with an embezzlement case overshadowing the case, Angela’s only choice is to catch the killer herself.
A variety of quirky clues are at the core of the mystery which provides humor, twists, and charm along the way. These include a unique witness with an important clue, a deceptive suspect, and a crime scene that sends Angela in circles. Max Parrott provides plenty of twists for Angela and Ruff as they work to catch a killer, which makes this another excellent installment in the series. Angela’s support system is comprised of her various relationships, particularly with her boyfriend, as they help her sort through clues and theories. David is the catalyst as the intrigue behind the mystery is quickly sparked by his insistence that this is a murder. Pets are a significant part of the story and Angela’s life, which makes this an ideal mystery for animal lovers. The inclusion of Ruff is a lovely dynamic that every pet owner will be able to relate to and gives the story a lot of heart. Other animals provide charm with importance either to the case or to Angela, such as Eggatha the chicken, and the victim’s cat. These animals demonstrate the love of animals in the series that carries through each book and provides a heartwarming element. Purr Purr Purloin is a charming story with adorable moments with Ruff McPaw, a twisty mystery, an Eggy crisis, and even a little romance.
