Based on the author’s experiences in Liberia, the story follows Ramsay from humble beginnings in a cold, dimly lit room to his eventual life in Hollywood. Along the way, Ramsay forms endearing relationships with various characters, including the quirky Jenn and Smarty, their compassionate friend George, and even a gecko named Gordon.

Wolf Norris does a fantastic job of narrating the world through Ramsay's eyes, capturing his childlike wonder and hilarious misconceptions about human behavior and language. The narrative is filled with heartwarming moments, such as Ramsay’s struggle to fit in and his constant quest for food, which provide readers with many laughs while touching on themes of loyalty, survival, and companionship. What stands out most is Ramsay’s lively personality; he exudes a mix of mischief and bravery, whether facing the unknown or the dangers of life in Liberia. His antics, from scaring guests to his encounters with wildlife, make for engaging storytelling that will appeal to readers of all ages. The images throughout the book are entertaining and tell a story in themselves; some are laugh-out-loud hilarious, like when Ramsey surfs. In Ramsay the Cat by Wolf Norris, Jenn and Mark start a restaurant in Liberia, West Africa, naming it after their favorite chef. During the demolition to improve the property for the restaurant, Mark finds a kitten and sends it home to Jenn. The couple names the cat Ramsay and feeds him well. They grow to love the cat's colorful antics and bring him to the United States when they return home. Jenn's mom, Betty, offers to care for Ramsay full-time as Jenn and Mark travel. Ramsay secretly explores the neighborhood until he falls asleep in a van and ends up at the beach. He rides the waves and makes new friends but misses his owners. When the surfer cat returns home, Betty has a surprise for him that will change his life.

Based on events from Wolf Norris's four years in Liberia, West Africa, the story will draw you in with a cute kitten you watch grow into a rambunctious, food-loving cat. Ramsay the Cat by Wolf Norris narrates the exciting exploits of Ramsay, a fearless, orange-striped cat. Ramsay, an adorable troublemaker, is first discovered by his owner, Smarty, in Liberia. Smarty and his wife (Jenn) own a restaurant there. They adopt Ramsay and make him part of their family. Ramsay is constantly searching for new adventures to go on. He discovers his passion for milk, chicken, attention, and affection while in the loving care of Smarty, Jenn, and Betty (Jenn's mom). Even when the family moves to Hollywood, California, his escapades continue unabated. Ramsay's little family unit grows with the addition of Mitzi (his mate) and Fluffy (his daughter). He even becomes an Instagram sensation as a surfing cat. Despite his many brushes with danger, Ramsay teaches us that adventure is the spice of life.

Ramsay the Cat is a fun and engaging read. It is filled with humor, action, drama, and angst as Ramsay navigates from one stunt to the next. I laughed out loud several times while reading about Ramsay's many hijinks. I think Wolf Norris authentically portrays the lifestyle of an audacious cat through Ramsay's various escapades. The author introduces Ramsay in exciting situations, described to grasp the reader's attention. This writing style proves to be very effective. The black-and-white illustrations of Ramsay on his exploits added a spark of visual appeal to the storyline. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. It is that addictive! This incredible book is 'purrfect' for young readers, animal lovers, and readers looking for an endearing story and a quick laugh.
