Azshure Raine’s ReBirth is the first book in the Zodiac series. The book is divided into thirteen parts told through multiple character perspectives. The gods fight and pin Time inside the Tree Of Life. Fate divided her soul into two before the Prophet freed Time. However, Time knows she has to find a Zodiac member who bears the Eternity tattoo. She manipulated King Soren Rion to search for Eternity in exchange for power. Prince Jase defected from his father’s tyrannical rule. In Brighton, Jase sees Liya and her family try to slip away on a boat to Undall. He attempts to intercept them, but the titan, Reve, imprisons him in the boat’s storeroom. Liya sneaks into the storeroom at night, and the pair become fond of each other. She gives him her favorite hair pick so he can escape when they arrive in Undall. Meanwhile, someone aboard the boat plans to deliver Eternity to the king.

Azshure Raine created an intense fantasy full of action with ReBirth (Zodiac Book 1). Jase’s dislike of his father made his life difficult. He served as a mercenary for the king, and I thought he would either turn Liya over to Time or his father. However, the unpredictable changes in the plot took the story in a different direction. There are moments when the tension between characters builds to a boiling point. Reve’s overprotective manner was oppressive, and I disliked the way she thought she was the only person Liya could rely on. I believe that the group would have been better off if they had not shielded Liya from life experiences. The conversations between the characters revealed more about each personality, and the transitions between each viewpoint were seamless. The end was stunning with vivid details of the event. Losing multiple participants made me understand the sorrow that the survivors felt.
