Nazim Rashid's self-help book “Reconnected: How to Be a Mentor to Your Child-Self” describes how to find a new connection to your child-self by visualizing an alternative youth in which you turn into your own mentor. The author explains various things that a child needs to have in his or her life so that you can turn into the mentor you might never have had in your own childhood. The book also addresses parents (or to-be-parents), teachers and mentoring organizations who would like to know more about how to treat children right and enable them to have the best possible emotional start in their lives. After numerous chapters about issues like self-esteem, validation, faith and many others, Nazim Rashid explains how to solve problems from the past to solve the problems of the present.
The book is well-written and finds a good balance between telling sample stories and educating the reader. The language used is neither too simple nor too difficult and has a good flow. The author keeps you reading and gives you the feeling that a wise mentor is talking to you, trying to help you as best as he can so that you will be able to help yourself. People who had an unhappy childhood and even people who think that their childhood wasn't that bad will find that at least one or the other chapter will deal with an issue they have in their own life. If you read the book carefully and take the time to really think about what is written in it, then the book can make a change in your life.
