Author Biography

Toby's stories have been praised by Midwest Book Review, Library Journal and Cemetery Dance as well as by New York Times bestselling authors Steve Berry, Douglas Preston, Jonathan Maberry and Steve Alten. He has been featured in The Big Thrill magazine and on Internet radio, blogs and newspapers.

Inexplicably drawn to all things dark and macabre, at about the age of twelve he began penning short stories and publishing his own movie monster magazine.

An Air Force brat who never lived in one place more than two years, after high school Toby did an eight-year stint in the U.S. Navy and ended up on the east coast. He has since worked as a cab driver, a pizza delivery man, a phone solicitor, a shipyard technician, a government contractor, a retail music salesman, a bookseller, a cell phone salesman and a recording studio engineer.

Toby later earned a B.A. in English and became a full-time graphic designer and newspaper reporter, publishing hundreds of stories with the Associated Press and his local paper. He has since been published in The Pedestal Magazine, Voluted Tales magazine, Famous Monsters of Filmland, Scary Monsters Magazine, and websites like eHow.com.

Owing to the inspiration of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Ray Bradbury and Stephen King, Toby became an author of what he likes to call "high-octane sci-fi, fantasy and horror" and has published several books.

Toby is also a songwriter and musician and lives with his family near the Great Dismal Swamp in northeastern North Carolina.

In Red Rabbit (A Shaun Patrick Thriller Book 1) by Toby Tate, when death comes calling, it never leaves a pretty picture behind. But when death is delivered by the hand of a butcher blade wielding monster, the picture that it leaves behind is gruesome enough to rattle even the strongest detective, especially if said detective was friends with the victim. DC Detective Shaun Patrick thought he had seen it all, but nothing in his career, or even in his whole life, could have prepared him for the bizarreness of his latest case. What started out as a single homicide case soon spiraled into a killing spree by a villain who killed swiftly and disappeared without a trace. Even more bizarre was when eyewitness descriptions of the killer perfectly matched victims who were already in the morgue. As the evidence starts to defy science and logic, Shaun is left no choice but to explore the possibility that the murderer might be what is known in the Chinese community as 'he who walks between worlds.' But how does one even start to solve a case where all the evidence points to the existence of an army of the walking dead.

Red Rabbit (A Shaun Patrick Thriller Book 1) by Toby Tate is the type of story you read without pausing because you cannot wait to see how the mystery unfolds. From the very first paragraph of the very first page, the story draws you in right away with a chilling grip and an intensity that hold true to the very end. Every answer just makes the mystery grow deeper as Detective Shaun Patrick races against time to save the city from an impending doom of which even he has no true comprehension. The story combines a perfect mix of sleuth and paranormal to bring to life an adrenaline pumping thrill that culminates in the ultimate showdown between good and evil. Toby Tate has produced an absolute winner that is not only captivating but utterly believable.
