Author Biography

Why I wrote this book?

Raised in an atheistic environment, I was one of many who fell asleep at the first page of the Bible. I never had a hope to understand this Holy book until I experienced something in my life, which I have come to call my Spiritual Choice.

My Spiritual Choice...

Years ago I realized that the corporate luxury train, in which I was comfortably riding, was taking me in a direction that I did not want to go. Getting off of this train at my own risk and expense was very hard, but I jumped off. But nothing completely disappears, and in my case, the tangibles (prestige, security, wealth and social status) were replaced by an intangible: the ability to see a Spiritual Choice.

The realization first came to me from movies. The spiritual choices of Dracula, Scarface, and the story of Abraham and Jesus became transparent to me. This revelation led me to a fascinating conclusion: a spiritual choice is a shortcut to "upgrade" a human's consciousness. My enlightening journey continued. I began to see things that I had never seen before. And I added a new word to my personal vocabulary--vision. I realized that vision is a direct product of Consciousness, and that Consciousness is a subject of both evolution and involution. However, the physical world was still calling for me. I was constantly looking for a new project in which to implement my skills and abilities; one that I had never done before.

One day, while walking in the forest, I suddenly had an awesome idea: I would make afeature movie. The idea was totally absurd; I had never had any interest in film production, but the idea stuck with me, and gave me the two things that I needed the most: hope, and a direction. But before I could make a movie I needed a complete story. This is why I decided to write the novel.

Can you further elaborate on spiritual choice and how it relates to your book?

My Spiritual Philosophy involves the concept of Spiritual Choice. I see Spiritual Choice as a powerful tool to upgrade our consciousness within a relatively short time period. During this transformation we absorb a different spectrum of vibrations than we do during merely theoretical spiritual exercises and practices.

In Redemption, the heroine experiences five Spiritual Choices in five different lives. Each time, she chooses a spiritual path towards LIGHT.

Jacklyn Lo's Redemption follows the the life-changing and surreal journey of a successful executive as she realizes that material gain simply isn't what life was meant to be all about. It is 2045 and Ann, a high-powered AI industry executive, is struggling to find the missing piece in her life. A series of vivid recollections from various times in history, an enchanting and mysterious stranger, and a psychic woman may hold the key to Ann's journey to find the truth.

Melding different genres is a difficult task for any author. Each aspect must draw upon the others and come together to create a cohesive narrative that the reader can follow. Redemption manages to juggle science fiction, metaphysical, and romance aspects of the story while staying on course and showing how Ann's viewpoints and perspectives change with every event that she encounters. Ann's sojourns into history are well-researched and compelling, the details manage to portray to the reader how vividly Ann must be experiencing each historical age.

Redemption is a modern day Divine Comedy, where each experience propels the character towards enlightenment, and one that incorporates various New Age themes to craft a story that not only entertains the reader, but also manages to impart a different perspective to living and looking at life. Ann as a protagonist is easy to like and identify with, her struggles all too quickly becomes the reader's own. And as she finally realizes the truth, the reader also gets to enjoy the unexpected ending that Redemption offers.

Redemption is a science fiction novel by Jacklyn A. Lo which blends multiple elements and influences into its plot. The central tale revolves around Ann in Chicago, 2045, where Artificial Intelligence has taken its next step, and our heroine is a high powered career woman preparing a brand new product for the world. Shying away from relationships with a bevy of excuses, Ann finds herself tormented by sleepless nights and mental anguish. In desperation, she visits a psychic, and here begins her journey into the past, where incarnations of her previous selves only seem to add to her confusion. As time goes by, however, Ann explores the themes within each tale, and her real life problems pale in comparison to the revelations which await her.

Jacklyn A. Lo has created a deep read which is sure to leave its audience contemplating many a dilemma. I was impressed by the parallels drawn between God as a creator and the creators of Artificial Intelligence, as well as the idea that past lives, and indeed past deaths, are part of a journey towards redemption of the soul. The explanation of the culmination of Ann’s journey wasn’t quite fully rounded enough for me, but I felt that Ann herself and her supporting cast were well drawn and really came to life on the page. The insertions of Ann’s visions from history also made for exciting turns in the plot. Overall, enthusiasts of philosophical fiction, historical fiction and hardcore sci-fi will not be disappointed by Redemption.
