Resistant by Jennifer Reynolds is the story of Sahara and Daniel, survivors of the zombie virus, that become leaders of their survival group. The zombie apocalypse didn't happen suddenly and without warning; it happened slowly and with plenty of warning for people to prepare and fortify their homes and learn how to defend themselves. Sahara was right along with the rest of her neighborhood: she put up the fence, put bars on the windows, bought guns and got manuals that would teach her how to use them, and stockpiled food. When zombies came to her town, she hid and stayed in her home until one day the electricity to her fence was cut and other survivors showed up on her doorstep. Could she be strong enough to leave with them? Should she leave with them? Could the man she was starting to love be able to love her back? Was there time for love in the new world?
Resistant by Jennifer Reynolds is an amazing and very unique zombie story with romance mixed in. The characters all feel like they could step off the pages into reality and the imagery used puts you right there with everybody as their story unfolds. I find it absolutely amazing that the author was able to so seamlessly blend the romance aspect in with the zombie and survival aspect. The relationships that the characters have with each other and themselves are very realistic and reminded me of relationships that I've had and that I've heard others experience. While I don't think zombies could ever happen, I do believe that Jennifer Reynolds has created a very realistic and believable world. I will definitely keep an eye out for more books by this author.
