The Stormy Kromer Kitten by Erin Byrnes Bailey narrates the fascinating history behind the Stormy Kromer cap while featuring an adorable calico kitten. The story introduces us to George Kromer, a young man residing in the small town of Kaukauna, Wisconsin. He falls in love with a remarkable woman named Ida. Second to George's adoration of Ida is his love of baseball and his nifty baseball cap. George accepts a job as a railroad engineer so he can provide Ida with a good, stable life. One day, while George is relaxing in the caboose for his train ride home, he discovers a tiny calico kitten curled up inside the brim of his baseball cap. He carries the kitty home to Ida, who names the sweet furball Sidekick. When George's baseball cap suddenly goes missing during the cold winter days, Ida does something incredible to help him (and Sidekick) out.

The Stormy Kromer Kitten by Erin Byrnes Bailey is an entertaining and engaging historical fiction children’s book that is guaranteed to put an enormous smile on your face. Wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated, this endearing tale offers readers a delightful exploration of George and Ida Kromer's life as the original creators of the Stormy Kromer cap. Sidekick's role in the story, as Ida's fictional muse, adds a warm and playful tone. Readers, young and old, will fall in love with this charming kitten and his amusing antics. The Stormy Kromer Kitten is the perfect picture book for fans of American history in the early 20th century. If you are a fan of other popular historical fiction books like Laura Ingalls Wilder's Farmer Boy and Little House in the Big Woods, you will adore this one, too. I highly recommend it.

The Stormy Kromer Kitten by Erin Byrnes Bailey is a historical tale for children based on a true story. George Kromer loved baseball, and he played it all the time, but when he met and fell in love with Ida, he knew he had to change things. He got a job as a railroad engineer to provide them with a roof over their heads, but George would never give up his baseball cap, not for anyone. One day, on the train home, George found a tiny kitten curled up in his cap and took it to Ida – his name was SideKick. When George lost his last baseball cap on a windy day, Ida came up with a grand idea, one that would change caps forever and lead to one of the most successful businesses – the Kromer Cap Company.

The Stormy Kromer Kitten by Erin Byrnes Bailey is a unique story set in the early 1900s, with historical facts interwoven with fiction to create something that kids will love to read and learn from. The illustrations help bring the story to life, and the addition of a few photographs, including one of George Kromer himself, adds a touch of reality and helps kids see the character behind it all. It teaches readers how the Kromer Cap came into being all those years ago, and if their parents or grandparents still have one, they’ll be able to relate it to the story. The addition of a cute kitten seals the deal – what kid doesn’t love a fluffy bundle? – and younger readers will find it much easier to read and understand than a stuffy history book that just lists facts. Lovely story, all kids will enjoy this.
