It is a joyous day in the Kingdom of Lavindeya as Princess Sydneya is about to wed her true love, Prince Nicholi. However, the happy event takes a drastic turn when Nicholi goes missing. It turns out that he has been abducted by intruders from Talimar, sent by the ruthless, beastly King Veltor. This incident destroys the peace and tranquility that Lavindeya had enjoyed for years. King Devin lays down a proclamation of war before he, his two princes, and a small group of soldiers proceed to infiltrate their enemy's kingdom and rescue Nicholi. Return to Lavindeya by Anthony David Herman is a fantasy tale of a family determined to defeat their evil and powerful foe so that they can reunite their loved ones, return home and bring peace to their land once again.
Brave princes and a princess, a powerful yet bounded sorcerer, an army of courageous men and giants, an evil king and other dangerous fantastical creatures－Anthony David Herman’s Return to Lavindeya has all the elements to satisfy the imagination of fantasy fans. The premise is interesting and well-developed. The short chapters ensure that the plot has good pacing and give enough room for all the characters to assert their role in the story. There’s a subtle dramatic flair in the narrative that readers will appreciate. I gravitated more towards the giants and their desire to free themselves from Veltor’s reign. I also would love to read more about the sorcerer Thalin and his return to his homeland. With the strong messages of familial bonds, courage, and love, this is an enjoyable read.
