Road of the Raven by Alexandra Wood is a young adult dystopian novel. Thora was in trouble and she knew it. With her mother dead, her father had control over Thora’s life. So, when Thora got the opportunity to pack her bags and leave Genesis, she did exactly that. Freedom was sweet but not without its perils. The wilderness was dangerous, and nothing could have prepared Thora for the sheer hostility of the outside world. All she wanted was to reach the Pacific Coast and live freely. However, things changed when she met Zeke who was charming and just as headstrong as herself. Thora was intrigued, to say the least. Together, the duo tackled the danger, the barren lands, and the hunters who were dogging Thora’s every step. Could Thora and Zeke make it to the Pacific Coast in time?

Fast-paced and packed with action, Road of the Raven was full of intrigue and entertainment. It had everything that I look for in a good novel: romance, suspense, action, strong characters, and a solid plot. There was never a dull moment. Alexandra Wood's narrative style made the story come to life. The world-building was phenomenal, and the descriptions were evocative. Thora was resilient, smart, and determined to achieve the life she wanted. Zeke, on the other hand, was the perfect companion for her. He wasn’t exactly like her, but he was Thora’s equal in determination. Zeke ensured that Thora’s feet were firmly on the ground at all times. Their connection wasn’t instant, and their progress was realistic. I enjoyed their character development and how they took time to fully understand each other. Their romance is a slow burn, which makes it even better. I recommend this high-octane romance/action novel!
