Sanctuary: Book 4 of Sanctuary Chronicles is another fast-paced entry by Greg Rode in his exhilarating zombie apocalypse series. Our protagonist’s group - Amy, Eve, and Morgan - successfully cleared the horde that was led to their little sanctuary, but a zombie bit a chunk out of the protagonist’s neck and he now stands to change into what he has been fighting against for so long. Everyone is still worn out from their last encounter, but Morgan proposes a dangerous yet has-to-be-done type of request: she wants them to free the captives in Marcus’ walled sanctuary. Such an act of heroism will come at a high cost, and on their rescue mission, they will make discoveries they wish they hadn't. Their lives will be forever changed by their next expedition into the zombie-infested lands they once knew as home.

Greg Rode has delivered another unusual book in the classic zombie sub-genre of dystopian-themed books. Sanctuary retains all that made the previous books such a joy to read. The fluid and humorous dialogue I've come to love made me relive the breath-of-fresh-air sensation I got from previous titles in the series. The action sequences still read like a Hollywood script with their concise and excellent descriptions, and the high stakes of each encounter are forever present as I never knew how they would turn out and whether everyone would emerge unscathed. The now well-established characters remain true to themselves and were done justice in this sequel. This was a wild ride and fellow zombie enthusiasts will like Rode’s take on this beloved genre. A sequel and series worth reading.

Unfinished business is on the cards as our quartet of heroes and their canine companions struggle to stay alive. Having lost members of their group in a previous battle with the zombies, the team is more interested in lying low and making the most of what they can survive on, and maybe at some point, they can return to the cabin they had prepared to wait out the apocalypse. Morgan has other plans though as she is hellbent on returning to Marcus and his deranged community to rescue the unfortunate souls trapped within their walls. It sounds like a daring plan but the numbers don't favor them and the odds are they will end up as zombie dinner. Find out what happens next in Greg Rode's Sanctuary.

The fourth installment in the Sanctuary Chronicles picks up where the preceding book left off. The storyline has the youths battling to stay alive in a post-apocalyptic world populated mostly by the recently undead and the few upright survivors in their various hiding holes. This time there is a new adventure with a hint of revenge in the plot which spices it up nicely. I am particularly impressed with the way Greg Rode unfurls his story. He laces it with random clues that draw a reader into this frightening world and his attention to the little details went a long way in building up my imagination of what to expect while on this adventure. The oddities in Marcus's supposed sanctuary make for an interesting subplot and the skillful storytelling that goes into the big rescue adds to the excitement of the novel nicely. Sanctuary turns a typical zombie apocalypse story into an exciting survival chronicle in a way that holds a reader's attention admirably. This is an impressive piece of work from Greg Rode.

If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic zombie survival stories like The Walking dead, grab a copy of Sanctuary, the fourth book of the Sanctuary Chronicles by Greg Rode. The protagonist is back. Plagued by grief at the loss of his friends and stung by betrayal, the protagonist has the added burden of being bitten by an alpha zombie. Living with his fierce older sister Morgan and his friends Eve and Amy, with their two dogs, Ajax and Jack, the protagonist and his little family decide to hit the road again in an audacious attempt to rescue another group of people trapped by a ruthless leader and his goons in Kansas City. But upon their arrival, they discover that things are worse than they previously thought, and the real reason for the zombie outbreak is finally revealed.

A slow-burn survival drama novel, Sanctuary is a treat for readers who love post-apocalyptic stories involving zombies. Although not as action-packed as the previous books, this installment of the Sanctuary Chronicles still packs quite a heavy punch in terms of sheer human drama and conflict between the characters. The protagonist remains nameless, but his bond with his adopted family becomes even stronger, with his older sister Morgan assuming more of a leadership role in this book. Greg Rode takes his time moving the plot as most of the narrative focuses on the internal conflicts and interactions between the characters. The sense of dread and tension is palpable throughout the pages, and it will keep readers hooked, especially the ones who love the zombie horror genre.
