Saniyah’s Face is an educational book by Akua Agusi. The book teaches children about the parts of the face, and Saniyah Black is the model who demonstrates by following the basic instructions. These are translated into five different languages, and there’s a colour guide showing what each one is. They are: EN-English, SP-Spanish, KI-Swahili, FR-French and WF-Wolof. Although the primary objective is to show the facial parts, children will get the opportunity to learn a few phrases from other cultures. The lovely photos of Saniyah show her pointing to her nose, mouth and eyes as she listens to the commands given.
Saniyah’s Face by Akua Agusi is a very short children’s book as it only contains 28 pages. It is an interesting way for children to learn about the face while having fun speaking in foreign languages. The demonstrative photos are good examples, but I think a small glossary should have been included to show readers how some of the difficult words should be pronounced. I believe languages ought be introduced to children from an early age, because they are more eager to learn new things and catch on even quicker than adults. This book will be suitable for kids who are in kindergarten, and will make interesting reading material for the class. I like the creative approach Akua Agusi took in the writing of Saniyah’s Face, and find the content simple enough for young minds to comprehend and imitate as they look at the pictures.
