Sarian Dreams by Milton Klink begins on the war-torn planet Sarpe, where rebel Sarian Scales wields advanced Dream Synthesizers to hijack human minds, forcing them to fight in his campaign against King Sareek’s Saria Empire. Zach, a 25-year-old software engineer on Earth, becomes one of these unwilling participants when his consciousness is transferred into a Sarian body. Thrust into alien combat with unfamiliar weapons, vehicles, and technology, he must navigate deadly missions alongside both humans and Sarians, facing elite enemies like Raz and mechanized forces loyal to Scales. Each operation tests his skill, endurance, and judgment as he balances his dual existence between Earth and Sarpe. Zach’s efforts to survive, adapt, and act strategically in a war that spans two worlds will determine the outcome of human and Sarian society tied to Scales’ rebellion.
Milton Klink’s Sarian Dreams, honestly, began with me thinking, “What is going on?” This shifted within a matter of pages, and once I was in, I was well and truly engrossed in the story. The author demonstrates the highest form of ingenuity. I have read a lot of science fiction, and I have read many books on dreamscapes, but this is the first time that they were effectively paired. The world-building is spectacular; the kind one would expect with the big, fat, beautifully wide space that shared dreams used as a battleground can offer, in a place where human consciousness intersects with an alien conflict. Still, there are genuinely human connections, particularly between Zach and Jen, that balance the story with a bit of sweet romance. The ending is satisfying and leaves room for a sequel, and with any luck, Klink will deliver one. Recommended.
