Sea of Shadows is a work of fiction in the historical romance subgenre and serves as the latest entry in the Sea and Stone Chronicles series. It is suitable for the general adult reading audience and was penned by author Amy Maroney. The book follows an artist’s daughter named Anica who has been producing her father’s artwork for him ever since his sight began to fail. When the secret arrangement is discovered, Anica seeks out a privateer named Drummond to help her restore her father’s sight before his honor lies in ruins. But as they undertake their mission, her feelings for Drummond begin to grow.
This is a sweeping romance story with a gorgeous backdrop stunningly recreated and brought to life by author Amy Maroney’s beautiful prose. The Greek islands come alive with the descriptive writing that sees readers such as myself closing their eyes and picturing the surroundings with ease. What better use of a beautiful world than a compelling tale of love, honor, and conviction in one's beliefs. Anica is a clever and well-realized heroine who fights hard for the people she cares about, with Drummond an excellent foil and romantic interest. The two are carefully balanced so that their alliance allows both to develop and grow as their feelings start bubbling up to the surface. Overall, Sea of Shadows is a romance novel for a person to lose themselves in; lose themselves to another time, lose themselves to another place, and lose themselves to a stunning narrative with compelling characters.
