Teaching children how to manage money will give them financial skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. With charming illustrations by Dina Gamal, Alibeth Abreu offers a fun way for children to learn about using money. The Great Money Adventure has seven short stories, each with a valuable idea. For example, in the first story, Sammy the squirrel discovers the value of exchanging objects as an alternative to getting something when there is no money. In another story, we see Eva, an adorable kitten who, on a trip to Japan, learns to make origami and then sells it to tourists. In this way, she discovers that she can work at something fun and earn rewards. With these lessons, young readers will recognize the importance of responsibility, planning, and collaboration.
I loved Alibeth Abreu's writing style. The narrative is clear and easy to follow, and the advice is useful. Children will be able to relate to the characters, such as Christie the elephant. She learns to distinguish between what she needs and what she wants to make good use of her money. That's why she has to choose between buying healthy food and candy. Abreu shows that sometimes making the right decisions is difficult, but when we do, we benefit. I also liked that each story takes place in a different location, which keeps the reading pace dynamic and fresh with lessons naturally integrated into the narrative. In addition, the illustrations are colorful, depicting joyful moments of togetherness and harmony. The Great Money Adventure will teach children the value of hard work and how far they can go with their creativity.
