Second Chances (Book One) by D.A. Lawson is a beautifully written romance story about a second chance at love. It has been two years since Brandon Bradley died, leaving Dana a widow and Patrick fatherless. The mother and son still have not fully recovered from the grievous wound that his death left. On the other hand, Monica Peters, fully focused on her career, had no desire for a family. She threw her family away. Monica rejected her daughter, Tori, at birth and left all the infant's care to her husband, Josh. Tori, now seven, feeling the lack of maternal love and the care of a mother, asked God to send her a mother that would love and want her. Monica had abandoned them both a year ago and moved two states away. She divorced Josh and sold the house that he had designed and built for their family.

Josh and Tori, still reeling from the blow, move into their new home. Their new house is next door to Dana and Patrick. Patrick and Tori are close friends at school and are delighted that they live so close together. With the two children playing together all the time, Dana and Josh become friends. One day, Tori astounds her father with the announcement that she would like Dana for a mother. She needs a mother and Patrick needs a father. Tori firmly believed that Dana was God's answer to her prayer. Not wanting to upset anyone, Josh tells her to keep it a secret. He wasn't looking for a wife and he was pretty sure Dana wasn't over her husband. Would Josh or Dana ever be ready for a relationship?

Second Chances (Book One) by D.A. Lawson is a romantic novel filled with hope and recovery. This is a story of two families that have experienced devastating loss. They are struggling through the pain and seeking to be whole again. Dana's experience has left her neurotic and she is afraid to believe that she is worthy of love. Josh tried dating again, but it just didn't feel right. Josh and Dana find comfort in each other's company, and by facing their problems together, they help each other move on. This book is wonderful! I enjoyed reading it. The characters were relatable and I especially loved despising the antagonist, Monica. It was a nice twist when she had a change of heart at the end, and yet she still remained narcissistic. That was very believable. This is an inspiring romantic novel that reaches down into the deepest part of your heart and gives renewed hope.
