Second Earth is a work of fantasy fiction for young adults, and it was written by author Cami Murdock Jensen. The second novel in the Arch Mage Series, this engaging story follows on from the novel First Earth. Hero Agnes Ann Cavanaugh returns after her spellbinding work to defeat the evil forces that threatened the worlds of the Jent Path. When Temnon arrives to take Agnes away to a new island for training, an earthquake signals the latest wave of terror that she must use her magic to face. The fate of worlds old and new are at stake once again as Agnes realizes she still has much to learn in order to keep a billion souls safe from harm.
Author Cami Murdock Jensen has created an absolutely spellbinding, charming and exciting fantasy series for young adults, and indeed adult readers too. One of the most engaging elements is the world-building and the concept of the new planets and places which Agnes explores during her epic journey to become the savior she is training to be. The description of these places sets them somewhere between the real and the fantastical, and they are easily imagined in full cinematic quality thanks to the author’s ethereal and evocative prose. The plot too is filled with opportunities for more excitement and learning, and the development of the friendship between Agnes and Temnon is truly endearing and heartwarming to read. Overall, Second Earth is an excellent continuation in an appealing fantasy series by a talented writer.
