Patrick MacCork’s Secrets in the Fire follows Cindy as she grapples with her mysterious past. Just when she thought she had found some semblance of normality, she found herself forced to face the ghosts of her past, threatening to take away everything she had built over the years. Names she had long buried in the deep recesses of her mind resurface, and it seems danger lurks just around the corner. With the very real threat to herself and everything she holds dear, she must go back to where it all began. This thriller is an exciting read.

Secrets in the Fire is a fast-paced, riveting story that reminded me how our minds will do anything to avoid revisiting a past trauma. We all have a memory or two we'd like to forget. I definitely enjoyed the nail-biting twists and turns as Cindy navigated the maddening clues left behind for her to find. I was also very happy that Taylor Swift was referenced in this book a few times. My Swiftie heart just soared. The characters are quite intriguing, and I couldn’t help but ponder their motivations and whether they’re friends or foes. Each chapter kept me guessing as it was full of surprising revelations. There were hair-raising scenes that tickled my imagination. I also appreciated the pacing as well as how the story tackled different human reactions to trauma and difficult situations. I had fun reading Secrets in the Fire, and I look forward to another Patrick MacCork story.
