“Seven Point Eight: The First Chronicle” by Marie Harbon is the first book in a science fiction series about how out of body travel could be used to gain more knowledge and even to explore space without having to leave Earth. The main characters in the first book are Tahra, a very talented young woman who can easily travel out of her body and can even reach the outer corners of the solar system with her soul; Paul, who discovered an electromagnetic field around the human body which might be the soul or at least connected to it; and Max, a rich businessman with a mysterious past who wants to profit from having the best remote viewers by selling the secrets they learn to the highest bidder. The experiments are taken to a new level when Paul successfully builds a machine which gives Tahra a boost and enables her to travel even further with her soul but instead of reaching other solar systems, the team makes unexpected discoveries and how the secrets will be used might not add to everybody's happiness. It might also not boost the survival chances of some people.

“Seven Point Eight: The First Chronicle” by Marie Harbon is a very well-written, intelligent and exciting read and you can't help but develop certain attitudes towards the various characters in the book. And if you arrive at the end of this book, you kind of have no other choice but wanting to read the next book in the series. It ends with a serious cliffhanger! I was almost frustrated because the book ended where it ended! It is like watching a very good, exciting episode of your favourite TV show, just to suddenly see the words “To be continued”. We all know the feeling: a mix of frustration and tension but also a feeling of really looking forward to the next episode. In addition to being very interesting and entertaining, the book also makes you stop reading every now and then to ask yourself some questions about other worlds, other dimensions and the power/price of knowledge. That is the kind of book I love!
