Jack may look like your average guy and he may continue to seem completely ordinary even when you talk to him, but there’s a lot more to Jack than meets the eye. He is part of a secret society, a group that has been around for hundreds of years, making sure that events go the way they are supposed to go. The Circle has been pursuing the right course of history for longer than anyone can remember and it’s always been able to do so in complete secrecy, but lately their members have begun to be rounded up and killed off. There’s something strange going on and it’s going to be up to Jack and Arden (and the few remaining members of the Circle) to figure out what it is before it’s too late in Shadow Knight’s Mate by Jay Brandon.
Secret societies are something I’ve always been a fan of so I expected a lot from this book when I picked it up. I have to say that it lived up to my expectations. The plot was very good and the idea of a secret society being discovered and destroyed (or at least an attempt being made to destroy it) was very realistic. I liked the characters such as Jack, Arden and The Chair. They all seemed easy to relate to and they had interesting characteristics as well (such as Arden’s ability to simply ‘know’ so much about people). Shadow Knight’s Mate by Jay Brandon is the kind of adventure book that anyone would enjoy.
