Shaken by Evangeline Kelly is a novel in the Christian contemporary romance genre. It is written in the first person and features Olivia, who has just made the biggest sacrifice of her life. After quitting her job and moving closer to her boyfriend, Harrison, she hopes that she can salvage their fading relationship. Will her sacrifice be worth it? Further, she realizes that she just moved nearer to Jax, a man who broke her heart years earlier after he stood her up, or so she believes. Olivia struggles with her loyalty to Harrison and her not so new attraction to Jax. In this new city, Olivia faces challenge after challenge. It is during these difficult times that each man’s character is revealed and a secret from her past is disclosed.
I loved reading Shaken because the story filled me with hope, particularly since we live in a world where the success of interpersonal relationships is constantly hampered. Evangeline Kelly challenged my perception of people and reminded me of the complications of stereotyping. Olivia’s story also deepened my understanding of God and His continued guidance in every area of my life. I also liked the fact that, despite her loyalty and love for Harrison, Olivia was able to stand up for herself. Additionally, the book is well written with great character development, important life lessons, and an engaging plot. The story is also not too long and still feels complete. In future, I will certainly keep a lookout for more books from Evangeline Kelly.
