Shattered Angel by Carrie Beckort is the story of a girl who received the name Angel after she had always known her name to be 'Little Shit.' At the age of only eight, Angel's mother sold the girl to a man who had plans to turn Angel into one of his most profitable assets (i.e. a prostitute). The girl is taken to a house in which she receives lessons by the man's son. She does not know his real name and calls him Isaac. The reader meets Angel when she is in a situation where a countdown starts - 24 hours until she needs to make a decision between life and death. In those 24 hours, she tells us the story of her life: from when she was sold, to the other events in her life (no spoilers here).

Shattered Angel by Carrie Beckort is not an easy book to read as the contents of the book can be rather disturbing for gentler minds. The book is very well written, and you can't help but hope that things will turn out well for Angel. It is a gripping story, and you wonder up to the end what decision Angel will make, and of course, you also want to know how the poor woman came to be in the situation the reader finds her. Carrie Beckort takes the reader to a world most of us will never have any contact with in the real world - you would hope so at least - and she does so with well written chapters and a good progression in the plot.
