Shattered Time is Book 3 in the Sons of Meir series by Jacqueline T. Johnson, a captivating story of war, deceit, and the unwavering friendship of two brave men that would decide the fate of the future of a nation. Erich and Nash share a powerful bond of friendship, and they have stood by each other in battle. But the Dweller nation is about to put this friendship to a huge test and only one man can make the life-changing choice. Which side will Nash take; loyalty or betrayal?
“I will not let my father kill my son,” are the words spoken by Erich in a brief dialogue after Nash’s visit to Artemis and an unusual request, just at the beginning of the story. The reader immediately gets the overpowering sense of something wrong. The conflict is introduced at the very start of the story, and readers get a glimpse of the protagonists, brave and solid men with an equally solid history.
Although Shattered Time is part of a series, it can stand on its own as a novel, and this clearly shows the author’s skill in plot and storytelling. The descriptions are powerful and they paint luxuriant landscapes and a setting that is reminiscent of the world of the Vikings. Yes, Jacqueline T. Johnson’s work would be well received in a motion picture, with the intense action, the powerful plot, and the unforgettable characters.
The themes are so beautifully woven into the plot. Loyalty seems to be the dominant theme in this book and readers will love Nash and Erich and the way they love and hate each other. Jacqueline T. Johnson can be very detailed without sacrificing the pace of her story. I fell in love with everything about this series and can’t wait to read Book 4.
