Career Day is a definitive moment for every student, as they think about their dreams and what career they would love to pursue one day. In She Went To School For Art by Gena Hyppolite, Tina, a young student, is faced with this challenge. Maybe she could be an interior designer, and combine her love of creativity and design. When trying to choose her career, she consults her grandfather and is inspired to pursue a career as an art teacher, which later becomes a reality as the youngest and first female African American art teacher. Inspired by a true story, this book will help each child pursue their dreams and imagine worlds of possibility. The book features hand-drawn images by the author, adding to its charm.

As someone who chose a creative field for their career, people always asked me why I pursued the arts, and not a more stable career like law or medicine. The answer was always simple - those didn’t bring me joy the way that creative arts did. In She Went To School For Art by Gene Hyppolite, the dreams of pursuing a creative life are affirmed through Tina, who takes her ambitions and turns them into a reality. When we pursue our dreams, we heal our inner child, and this book was a meaningful reminder as to why it is important to honor your passions, work hard, and defy the odds. This book is going to be a wonderful story for generations to enjoy.
