In Solis by Chrystal Eve Jackson, any time Chrystal feels down, confused, angry, or overwhelmed, her special friend Solis appears to provide a teachable moment. Taking a walk with Solis always provides the right amount of conversation to ease Chrystal’s troubled spirit. Chrystal learns that playtime is important and friends are invaluable. In lesson number five, she is advised that someone will always be there to pick you up when you fall, even if that someone is yourself. Author Chrystal Eve Jackson packs this short book with helpful and inspirational tidbits in readable segments that provoke careful consideration. Jackson urges that responsibility is important but that playtime is also essential.

Solis combines practical life lessons with an opportunity for the narrator to practice a personal passion: photography. In this seventy-five page read, Chrystal Eve Jackson shares twenty-six life lessons in an easy-to-read narration that provides a compelling source of entertainment for all groups. Colorful language and vivid detail keep the reader’s attention. “When in the midst of a storm, look for the rainbow even if you have to paint your own.” Jackson’s advice is not necessarily original but is told in a fun format that marries fantasy and hopeful reality. Children everywhere have, at some point, an imaginary friend similar to Solis. An imaginary friend has the special purpose of offering comfort, which all children need. I believe that Chrystal Eve Jackson has created an imaginary friend that serves both children and adults. Further study allows that the very title of the story is hopeful in its reference to sunlight.
