The Whitlock Trail is a captivating treasure-hunt thriller by Steven Gallaher. David and his family park their RV in a woodland. A barely conscious stranger staggers out of the woods and collapses near their RV. Michelle, David’s wife and nurse, helps the stranger recover. Once the stranger regains consciousness, he gets worried about his journal and his pursuers. He is Dr. Samuel Hale, and his journal is about a treasure he is hunting. His pursuers are two men who want to find the treasure before Hale does. David and his family join Hale on his treasure hunt. But then Hale suddenly disappears, leaving the journal in the RV. Baffled by his sudden disappearance, David and his family start reading the journal. But will they unravel the mystery of Hale’s disappearance? Will they find the treasure? And more importantly, will they survive?

The Whitlock Trail impressed me with its intrigue, the atmosphere, and the abundance of travel tips for exploring remote nature trails. I appreciated how Steven Gallaher shared his RV travel, hiking, nature exploration, and military experience in this riveting, family-friendly story. It is so realistic that I felt like I was treasure hunting with David’s family, enjoying the nail-biting, suspenseful thrill of adventure. I also liked how the story portrayed David’s relationship and teamwork with his wife and teenage son and daughter, who were surprisingly capable explorers. But what really blew me away was the unexpected ending, which made me long for the upcoming sequel. If you like hiking, exploring wilderness and historic sites, or are simply curious about cross-country RV travel, this admirable book will keep you riveted.
